Cheaters: The Hair Edition

Dear Hair Stylist:

I am so sorry to have to break up with you...on Facebook nonetheless...but it is over.

Last July when I started cheating on you my Facebook status went from In 'A Relationship' to 'It's Complicated' but now I am so in love with my new hair stylist that I am changing it back to 'In A Relationship' but just not with you :-(. I wish you well.

Seriously curlies how hard is it to find a hair stylist who is actually a curly hair expert?! One who actually gets your 'complicated side'...the multiple textures all fighting for world domination! What's not to 'heart' about that?!

This is my second trip to Christo Fifth Avenue and my second appointment with Tameeka McNeil Johnson and I am incredibly pleased!!

I used to dread visits to the 'beauty salon', (raise your hand if you used to book an appointment and block the rest of your day out because you just KNEW you would be there for HOURS); my experience at Christo Fifth Avenue and with Tameeka as my stylist has topped every single expectation that I had.

Tameeka has been styling hair for over ten years; she is professionally trained and knows how to work with a variety of textures from straight hair to kinky curly hair.

My hair is tightly coiled with very defined and tight 's' shaped curls, it can be obnoxiously dry, and let's also throw in the mix that I have a patch in the back that is type 'z' and scoff's at the notion of moisture...and on most occasions curl definition!

Oh and least I forget to mention...Luscious Lola (yep my hair has a name) will turn into a big 'ol 'fro in the blink of an eye.

Tameeka aka hair goddess cut my hair wet, taught me how to define my curls so that they 'pop', and has made specific recommendations on conditioning techniques, oils that moisturize, products, etc based on my unique texture.

I have found her to be incredibly knowledgeable about hair care AND since I have been seeing Tameeka my hair has never looked better! She took time before our appointment to look at my hair; she listened to my concerns and gave me exactly what I asked for. My cut and color are...#fierce.

The right products + the right hair stylist = CURL LOVE

If you are in the NYC area and in search of a Curly Expert make an appointment to see Tameeka! Your locks will thank you!

Fashion Friday: Behind The Scenes w/Alex Young on her way to Kim Kardashian's Welcome to NY Party!

Welcome to the first edition of Fashion Friday's...the column dedicated to all things girly, glam, & fabUUUlous!

This week the lovely pop princess Alex Young was invited to attend "The Night of Style & Glamour" Party which was thrown for newlyweds Kim Kardashian & Kris Humphries to welcome them to NY. Shut the front door! I KNOW!!!!

What is a pop princess to do? Umm call in the ultimate glam squad...oh and did I mention with less than 48 hours notice?!

It's ok I have a magic wand :-).

As soon as I got the call...yes me Etoile (in addition to being the maven of all things curvy, I am the maven of all things imaging, branding, & marketing) I made one call to Arlinda M. of Sofistafunk who works as Alex's stylist, designer and image consultant. We discussed the details of the event and how we wanted her to have a jaw dropping look and proceeded to get to work.

Alex wore an elegant but sexy aqua blue silk dress with a deep plunging neckline, a high split on the right side and a charcoal grey cummerbund tie belt. Her make-up was a funky aqua and plum smokey eye, bronzer and a nude lip.

Her look was described as 'resplendent' as she walked the red carpet.

And did you see THE SHOES?! Valentino...#imjustsayin

I Cheated...The Story of My Hair Affair

I cheated. On my hairdresser that is. Yep, I felt guilty...but boy am I LOVING my new hair style.

See the thing is the hairdresser that I 150% loved and adored moved away 5 years ago and I have not found that one person who just totally gets my hair. You see this mane of hair on my head has a mind of her own, she's thick, she's a mix of textures, she's brazen, and if you don't play nice she will show you that she ain't having it...sigh. Oh yea and I call her Luscious Lola.

Lola and I have salon hopped over the years, we have fallen prey to quite a few slick marketing gimmicks, we have allowed hair dressers to put creamy crack in our hair, we have been the victim of carrot top aka when the color goes oh so horribly wrong, we have beaten and subdued our hair at The Dominican Salons...which caused heat damage you could not even believe...you name it and Lola and I have done it.

Late last year we started seeing Mr. Big (the name has been changed to protect the innocent - smile), and we really do love him. He pampered Lola, he nursed her back to health but still she and I just wanted something more.

And then we found her. Yesterday we walked into Christo in Manhattan met Queen Curl herself Ms. Tameeka McNeil-Johnson and so our Hair Affair begins. Tameeka is a gorgeous curly who looked at Lola and got it. She played nice with her and coaxed her into gorgeous ringlets. Who knew??!! Lola swooned, blushed, and fell in love.

Christo Fifth Avenue is a salon for curly's and is located in Manhattan. Find them on the web at www.curlisto.com; but be sure to ask for Queen Curl: Ms. Tameeka who can also be found at her web-site http://www.jadedtresses.com/.
