Inexpensive Detangling Conditioner: I am so cheating on HEHH!

I adhere to the shampoo, detangle, deep condition that most natural curlies do. And the detangle session involves the use of an inexpensive conditioner.

I have ooh goo gabs of thick APL hair, detangling my hair is a labor of love, an exercise in patience, and requires ridiculous amounts of conditioner....hence the need to use an inexpensive one...no wasting my good deep conditioner on that.

Ever the PJ (I am a card carrying, board certified, licensed, don't try this at home kids) PRODUCT JUNKIE...I was strolling through the aisles of Walgreen's and I spotted the large bottle (24 oz) of Pantene Pro-V Nature Fusion Moisture Balance Conditioner on sale...$4...the bottle told me to pick it up and put it in my bag so I did.

Product Description:
Pantene science combines Pro-V technology with naturally derived ingredients, such as Cassia. Moisture Balance shampoo and conditioner system—containing Cassia and a blend of aloe vera, calendula, and ginger—moisturizes your hair for touchable softness. Strength against damage.

Ingredients:
Water, Stearyl Alcohol, Cyclopentasiloxane, Cetyl Alcohol, Behenamidopropyl Dimethylamine, Cassia Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Powder, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) Root Extract, Panthenol, Panthenyl Ethyl Ether, Citric Acid, Dimethicone, Glutamic Acid, Benzyl Alcohol, Fragrance, EDTA, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Yellow 5, Orange 4C

What I have to say:

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!! This product detangled so well I was able to completely finger detangle something I am never able to do! It has a nice light fresh scent, and left my hair feeling soft and ready for my deep conditioner. I will be purchasing again!

Halloween Makeup Tips

Here are some fun ways to take your every day makeup and make it funky and fun for Halloween.

Go Black- Take a black eyeliner pencil and color in your lips. Add a dab of your favorite gloss for moisture and shine and pow.... You look like a more mysterious version of yourself!

Wing it out- Take your favorite eyeliner and extend and thicken it on the top lid to give your eyes a dramatic cat- like appearance. Draw on some whiskers and blacken the tip of your nose for added drama and fun!

Lash Out- Take this fun holiday to experiment with funky, trendy false lashes. There are tons of varieties sold at local drug and convenience stores such as feathers, glitter and bright bold colors... Happy lash hunting!

Picture It- If you are having a hard time choosing makeup that goes along with your costume, do an Internet search of similar looks and try them ahead of time. That way you will have it perfected for your big costume party.

If you have a costume party or event coming up and want to hire a professional makeup artist, send an email to ashatcampbell@yahoo.com with your event date, time and location you will be getting ready.

Naturalista's Rock - Thank You Curly Nikki!

I was in awe from the moment I stepped into the door at The NYC Curly Nikki meet-up!

Naturalista's EVERYWHERE! Rocking FIERCE DO'S!!! OMG...whiplash...

And then in hushed whispers I could hear ladies asking where is Nikki? Has anyone seen Nikki?

Finally I spotted her, center stage and holding court, smiling from ear to ear and let me tell you that head of hair DID NOT disappoint! She is stunning.

I attended the event with lovely songstress Alex Young whose own 'do' two ponytails pinned up was simply GORG. And caught up with some of my fellow naturalista's: Shelli of Hairscapades, Michelle of Radiant Brown Beauty, Rece of A Hair Story, Miche'al, Shana, & Arlinda of Sofistafunk.

The event was sponsored by Mizani USA whose True Textures line caters to naturalista's. I spotted the goodie bags and was beyond excited...hmm #fail. A HUGE brochure and two tiny samples. Not sure if you have seen my head of hair but those samples would work on maybe an eighth. But hey they get a A for effort. They had Mizani consultants giving product and styling tutorials and overall it was informative.

I had a wonderful time, I enjoyed the company of so many warm Naturalista's, and got to meet one of my biggest hair crushes...Nikki you rock!

Confessions of a PJ: Product Review Doris New York Leave In Conditioner

What They Say: Protection On The Go!

Yes it works! Finally a leave in conditioner that actually protects your hair and repairs split ends. After your shampooing and conditioning process, apply leave in conditioner generously to your hair. Massage throughout and style as desired. Again, the added moisture protects from sun damage, toxins and chemical processing but does not leave hair feeling oily or flat. Hate those split end fly aways? Well, our Leave In Conditioner will keep them tame while helping to repair the problem. Excellent for our natural girls!!! Try the Leave In Conditioner with the Olive Oil Hair Cream for a fabulous two strand twist! It's all you need! Check out our testimony section for a "how to" video demonstration of the two strand twist style! IT’S A LEAVE IN YOU WON’T WANT TO LEAVE OUT! 8 fl oz.

What I Say: LOVE!!!

I Live in the North East home of Afro Inducing Humidity...umm need I say more?! So I put this leave in through the ultimate test, let's see how you keep my curls defined through July, August & September...

I was impressed.

I apply the leave in to soaking wet hair in sections. I use a wide tooth comb and comb thru ea section 1-2 times and then scrunch the curls in ea section. This leave in Conditioner has a really nice creamy consistency. A little goes a long way. It adds moisture AND works well to refresh my 2nd/3rd day coils and curls.

Last week on location at a shoot a PA came over and asked if she could touch my hair because it looked so soft and shiny. I get that EVERYWHERE I go!

It has taken me some time but with Doris New York I have fallen IN LOVE with my curls!

I have always loved film..I think the first grown up film I remember loving was LOVE STORY with Ryan O'Neal & Ali Mcgraw However My love affair with film took hold in 12th grade when I took a film study class with Mr. Flaherty... He taught us how to love & analyze films

How long have you been working in the film industry? Since September of 1989.. SO I just passed my 22nd Anniversary

Tell us about your lifestyle brand Breezes and the philosophy behind it?
Hmm BREEZES as a lifestyle is something that was conceptualized based on us truly loving the life we live... I come from a family that loves a great conversation...And loves to Enjoy life.. We were raised a certain way and we take that every where we go.. Even in terms of how and who we do business with other people. I think one of the greatest compliments I ever got from a colleague that knew me and some of my siblings is that when you meet a Sinclair you meet all the Sinclairs you know it when we walk in the room....This makes my parents proud..

Hmmm Its been a really great run thus far and I have many moments I remember fondly... I loved doing MO BETTER BLUES.. My intro to this industry.. My big Break was getting an internship on the set of MO BETTER BLUES.

What are your goals and aspirations?
Goals & Aspirations are to continue to do the kind of work and be aligned with the kind of projects that will make my grand children proud.. I also look forward to collaborating with people of like minds & sensibilities to create the kind of product & projects that will have an impact on this industry and the way we do business... You see I am clear that my ministry is in Entertainment. This is where GOD sent me and this is where for 22 years he has continued to use me to do his work... I really do LOVE my JOB!!!

BlueDini: On The Set With Anna Maria Horsford

By: Asha Tanielle

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of doing makeup on the beautiful curvy actress Anna Maria Horsford. Anna has a vibrant personality which makes it impossible to get hung up on the fact that you've watched her on television and the big screen for the last few decades. In case you are not familiar with her work, Anna played "Thelma" in the sitcom Amen and "Dee" in the Wayans Brothers to name a few.

We met up at the studio of world renowned photographer Donn Thompson in Harlem, New York City. Donn has photographed just about everyone who is anyone from super models to actresses such as Kimberly Elise and Eartha Kitt.

After we all got situated, I began my assessment on Anna. She has warm mocha hued skin that looks the same way it did in photographs from ten years ago...flawless! She has large beautiful eyes with defined lids, high cheek bones and full lips....a makeup artists dream!

Since the photoshoot was for headshots, I decided to stick with neutral tones on the eyes while still using light colors on the lid and deeper tones in the crease to give the eyes definition and make them "pop". I used a warm red-orange blush on the under side of her cheeks to give them a nice contour and I popped "sweet as cocoa" blush from MAC on the apples of the cheeks to warm up her face and give it a bit of a bronzy appearance. For the lips, Anna said she either prefers very light (nude) shades, or deep dark shades. I went with a deep burgundy lipstick and a chestnut liner since fall is approaching.

When I was finished with the makeup, I handed Ms. Horsford a mirror and she smiled and said "I love it"...music to my ears! Then it was time for the magic to happen.

The actual shoot was surprisingly quick. Anna is a seasoned pro at posing and getting a variety of different angles. Her modeling skills coupled with Donn's magnificent lighting and artistic eye made this shoot a hit!

* Look out for Anna Maria Horsford this fall on BET in the new show called "Reed Between The Lines" starring Malcolm-Jamal Warner and Tracee Ellis Ross.
